What is a Brake Hose?

The braking system is one of the most important safety features of any vehicle. It is composed of several different components working together to slow down or stop the vehicle. When the brake pedal is pressed, fluid flows from the brake master cylinder, through rubber flex hoses to the brake lines, and eventually to the brake calipers or wheel cylinders.

Over an extended period of time and use, a brake hose may collapse or become worn due to the constant pressure, flexing, and turning they are subject to. This can often present symptoms like those of a seized brake caliper.

If a hose is damaged, or develops a leak, it can negatively affect the hydraulic pressure in the braking system, potentially leaving the brakes unable to slow down or stop the vehicle safely. If this occurs, the brake hose would need to be replaced immediately.
