What is a Brake Master Cylinder?

The brake master cylinder distributes hydraulic pressure to the brake calipers or wheel cylinders, in order to apply the amount of force needed to slow or stop a vehicle.

Over extended time and use, seals on the master cylinder may become damaged or worn, and it may not be able to create the pressure necessary to engage the brakes properly. If this happens, the brake pedal may begin to feel soft or spongy, and there will be a noticeable difference in braking efficiency.

The brakes are one of the most important safety features on a vehicle. If they brakes fail or begin to malfunction in any way it is important to have them repaired immediately. If you notice any of the above symptoms, it may the fault of a malfunctioning brake master cylinder.
